Three flower polaroids in an echo of 真, 副, 体. One blooms into the foundation beam of the machiya, and rests against the ceiling. One sunflower rests on the tatami, at a golden ratio from the center of the room. One camelia rests above the door, and the guest will see it only after, circling back to the beginning. In summer suggest coolness, in winter warmth; imagine the flowers as they are in the fields.
ISABELLE OLIVIER engages with international development, cultural diplomacy and the arts. She brings together artists and scholars, public servants and activists, galleries and temples, to contribute to producing transforming realities, and relating communities, constellations.
FOSTER MICKLEY is an artist and poet who gives to warmth and wonder reverent and tender forms. His practice holds that shared imagination revitalizes, that art expands and delights the possible.
In the summer of 2023, they created black cat day dream, a collective, an artist-run ecological space in Kyoto. In the winter, they found black cat day dream press, together with Japanese-Papua-New Guinean publisher and writer Hideko G. Ono.
Their practice, in collaborations, site specific, weaves photography and film, poetry, gardening and earth work, performances, architecture and publishing into forms of inclusive space making for forms of “anticipatory illuminations” and shared futures. They share imagination through residencies, gatherings, and quiet wonder. Welcoming, space, junction-making and daydream are at the heart of their forms.
