Helping KJ

Helping KJ

Since Kyoto Journal was founded, in 1986, it has been
 a completely volunteer-run, non-profit publication.

Over the years, the magazine has attracted a community of people with shared ideals and commitment. Some of us live in Kyoto; others elsewhere in Asia and beyond. Everyone has different talents, and contributes a different consciousness to the magazine.

We invite you to join our community and help us to develop KJ further.

If you would like to contribute writing or visual material to KJ, please read our submission guidelines.

If you would like to help Kyoto Journal, here are a few things you could do, no matter where you are located:

Help get the word out about KJ:

Subscribe: For yourself, for an institution, for a friend…

Introduce people to KJ: Lend copies to a friend, tell your favorite café about our free café subscription offer, give a copy to a colleague or business contact as a present…

Check if bookstores in your area have KJ — if they don't, tell them that, as a customer (not as a representative of KJ), you would like to see this magazine on their shelves, and send us their contact information.

Introduce potential interns (in Kyoto area)

Provide contacts: put us in touch with people and publications that could review KJ

Give us new Asian perspectives:

Introduce Asian-based writers’ and artists’ work to KJ

Write us a letter telling us what you like about KJ, or what you feel needs changing

Write/find/translate a one-page piece for possible publication

Send in your favorite quotes by Asian writers / about an Asian topic (we will consider them for our Voices page)

Scout articles and images from local publications in an Asian language, websites or old bookracks… if you see something you like that seems suitable (even if it needs to be translated), please send it to Kyoto Journal.

Look here for specific KJ contacts.

And check out our KJ News page for upcoming events etc...
