Small Buildings of Kyoto

Small Buildings of Kyoto

John Einarsen

In 2016 Kyoto Journal founder, John Einarsen, began sharing photos of Kyoto’s small buildings on our Instagram page. These buildings are so quirky, humble and endearing, and reveal another side of this amazing city.

We asked you what you thought of the idea of compiling these images into a little book. The response was a resounding “yes!” With your help, we raised over $10,000 in 6 days on Indiegogo!

This small tribute, published in spring 2017, featuring 100 images of the quaint homes, businesses, workshops, as well as the occasional neighbourhood shrine and teahouse, that make up the fabric of Japan’s ancient capital.

The book has now completely sold out and Kyoto Journal is planning the release of a new edition in late 2018! Sign up to our dedicated Small Buildings of Kyoto newsletter to receive updates nearer the time.
