NOTICE: Kyoto Journal is going digital til 2021

29 June 2020

Thank you all for supporting us at this difficult time. Kyoto Journal is a small, all-volunteer team and the lack of a regular funding, as well as the challenges of reaching a readership of which 99% are located outside Japan, has been hugely exacerbated by the pandemic. Distributors collapsed, a third of our orders this season were wiped out and a ban on outgoing international mail was imposed shortly after the release of our current issue KJ97.

As of today, this ban has still not been lifted for the US and Australia, where over half our readers live. We have some back issue inventory in the US, but not the current issue. Please refer our shipping updates and FAQs here.

For these reasons, we have made the difficult decision to suspend our printing operation and sales of our subscriptions, until further notice. Back issues are still available and will be shipped to you if we can ship them to you!

KJ98, to be released August 2020, will be a digital issue and provided free of charge to our current subscribers.

If you are mid-way through a subscription currently: you are welcome to request a quantity of back issues to bring your subscription to completion, wait until we resume printing, or request a partial refund. Please send us an e-mail at sales@kyotojournal.org and be as clear as possible about your request, with the name that the order was made under or the order number, when your subscription began and so on. Also check spam if you do not see a reply in two or three days. Thank you.

Finally, if you like what we do, please consider purchasing a back issue (lots of them are discounted) or donating to us.

Thank you once again for your understanding.
