Excerpt from the book:
“The Man’yōshū is the oldest anthology of poems in Japan, compiled sometime after 759 AD during the Nara period. The characters used for the title (万葉集) literally translate as “collection of ten-thousand leaves.” Humans have indeed recognized and identified with the tenderness, beauty, and impermanence of leaves for a very long time.”
