The Art of Neuroscience: Greg Dunn

Greg Dunn has always appreciated the Asian aesthetic, and is particularly enamored with minimalist scroll and screen painting from the Edo period in Japan. He admires the Japanese, Chinese, and Korean masters because of their confidence in simplicity, and he tries to emulate this idea in his work.

While completing his doctorate in neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania, he was elated to realize that he could fuse his passion for neuroscience and Asian art together by painting the elegant forms of neurons in the sumi-e style. Dr. Dunn now paints full time out of Philadelphia, and is interested in helping to spread awareness that the beauty and elegance of natural forms permeate all scales of magnitude — including the microscopic.
